Who we are

Ear to the Earth is a program of Electronic Music Foundation (EMF), a not-for-profit 501(c)3 organization with its principal office in New York City and a publishing, distribution, and archival center in Albany, New York.

The core organizing group for Ear to the Earth is an Executive Committee, charged with stimulating and enlarging the network, identifying talent, leading the conversation, developing events, fundraising, and general leadership. Its founding and current members are Joel Chadabe and Steven Feld.

The Executive Committee is supported by a larger Advisory Group, consisting of members representing a diverse spectrum of engagements, knowledge, and activity linking environmental issues to sound art. Its current members are John Corigliano, Jim Cummings, James Danoff-Burg, Nigel Frayne, Annea Lockwood, Pierre Mariétan, E. J. McAdams, Andrea Polli, Aviva Rahmani, Robert Rowe, Madeleine Shapiro, and Barry Truax.

Organizational partners to Ear to the Earth are The UNESCO DigiArts Portal, New York University Music Technology Program, New York Society for Acoustic Ecology, The Acoustic Ecology Institute, World Forum for Acoustic Ecology, and Leonardo.
