Phonologist Bernie Krause, has recorded the sounds of the world from the Arctic to the Amazon.
The sound above, recorded at Timber Lake, and the four images presented here document the Arctic Soundscape Project, a field-recording trip in the late spring of 2006, initiated and led by Bernie Krause to document in sound the National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska.
Wild Sanctuary's team of recordists, including Dr. Kevin Colver and Martyn Stewart, in addition to Bernie Krause, each staked out a different site for 10 days. The sites were Beaufort Lagoon, Sunset Pass, and a site just south of the Brooks Range, some 35 air miles west of Arctic Village.
