The Mamori Sound Project is a two-week workshop, usually held in October every year for sound artists and composers who come from around the world to Mamori Lake in the Brazilian Amazon. It's one of the many lakes in the Amazon river. The closest city is Manaus, capital of the Brazilian state of Amazonia. The trip from Manaus to Mamori Lake is 3-4 hours, depending on the season and the transportation, which is directly by medium-sized boat or by a combination of minivan and small boats.
The local ecosystem is a lowland tropical rainforest with lush vegetation and abundant wildlife, including an astonishing variety of insects, fish and amphibians, birdlife, river dolphins, crocodiles, howler monkeys, and other inhabitants of the forest.
We take creative approaches to field recording in the natural sound environment which is rich in sound and offers enormous opportunities for exploration. The sounds heard here were recorded by Francisco López.
